Dr Loo Choon Yong is the new chief for Sentosa

Dr Loo Choon Yong, Executive Chairman of Raffles Medical Group and an NMP, will be appointed the new Chairman of Sentosa from March 1.

He will succeed the post held by Mr Philip Ng for the past five years.

Dr Loo, also a member of the Singapore Tourism Board's (STB) Consultative Council, was appointed to the Sentosa Board as Deputy Chairman in August 2006.

He is known for his work in community development, having been awarded the Public Service Medal in 2003 and the Distinguished Service Award in September 2005 from the Ministry of Home Affairs for his efforts to combat drug abuse in Singapore.

Outgoing chairman Philip Ng, Chief Executive Officer, Far East Organization, who was first appointed to Sentosa Board of Directors in July 2000, has been integral in the redevelopment plans and rejuvenation of Sentosa's attractions.

He spearheaded various key initiatives like the setting up of the Sentosa Review Committee and the Islands Development Advisory Council.

Under his leadership, Sentosa's achieved record setting figures in group revenues, investments, and guest arrivals.

Group revenue increased 18-fold from $52 million in FY01/02 to over $1 billion in FY05/06, and investments grew to $3.12 billion over the past six years. Annual visitor arrivals to Sentosa also saw an increase from 3.76 million (FY01/02) to 5.2 million (FY05/06).

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has also appointed three new members to the Sentosa Development Corporation for a two-year tenure, from tomorrow.

They are Mr Olivier Lim, Group Chief Financial Officer, CapitaLand Limited, Mr Grant Kelley, Chief Executive Officer, Colony Capital Asia Limited and Lt-General Bey Soo Khiang, Senior Executive Vice President (Operations & Services), of Singapore Airlines.
