S'poreans advised not to travel to Pakistan now: MFA
Fri, Dec 28, 2007
The Straits Times

SINGAPORE'S Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) says it's shocked and horrified at the suicide bomb attack that claimed the lives of Pakistan's opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and other victims.

In a statement, MFA's spokesman says the ministry strongly condemn these murders and extends its deepest condolences to the families of Mrs Bhutto and other victims.

MFA adds that Singapore strongly supports the efforts of the Pakistani government to bring the perpetrators to justice and combat terrorism.

It says it's closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan.

MFA urges Singaporeans intending to travel to the country to reconsider their travel plans if there are no pressing reasons for them to do so at this stage.

Should they decide to go to Pakistan anyway, they should register with the Ministry through its website at www.mfa.gov.sg.

This will enable MFA to contact Singaporeans and render them the necessary consular assistance. They are also encouraged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance.

As for Singaporeans already in Pakistan, MFA advises them to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety.

They should monitor the news, remain in a safe location and avoid areas where there is risk of disturbance.
