Online accommodation and travel specialist, wotif.com, gets together with an astrologer to help you plan an auspicious holiday that will harmonise with your zodiac sign.
Capricorn (Dec 23-Jan 19):
A Goat is sure to love mountain heights! Someone born under this sign is likely to enjoy the sanctity of a monastery on a hill or discovering the secrets of an ancient village. At times, however, Capricorns have been known to break out of their shell to dance on tables and swing from the chandeliers!
Suggested location: Hoi An, in Vietnam, offers just the right mix of culture and nightlife while a hike to the top of the nearby Fan Si Pan, 'the Roof of Indochina', will also make Capricorns feel right at home.
Suggested hotel: Life Resort Hoi An is located along the Thu Bon River and on the doorstep of the colourful and bustling Ancient Town. Marble Mountain (Danang) and the 'My Son' ancient temple ruins are within easy travelling distance.
Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 19):
Unlike the more solitary Goat, Aquarians prefer to travel in packs. They love to be surprised and never settle for the norm. Energetic and inquisitive, they'll get the most out of the day before spending the night stargazing while contemplating the riddles of the universe....
Suggested location: Although their natural 'ruler' country is Russia, Aquarians will love the energy and excitement that is part of Brazil's second largest city, Rio De Janeiro.
Suggested hotel: South American Copacabana is within easy walking distance of the world famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, and is surrounded by trendy shops and restaurants.
Pisces (Feb 20-March 20):
Pisceans like to go with the flow when travelling and don't mind following a leader, as that would allow them to concentrate on daydreaming! True to their 'fishy' sign, they love swimming, diving, sailing - any activity at all that involves water.
Suggested location: Sabah offers amazing wildlife and picturesque landscapes for plenty of daydream inspiration. And, of course, the beaches are among the best in the world, so Pisceans would be able to scuba dive, swim and frolic in the water to their hearts' content.
Suggested hotel: Le Meridien in Kota Kinabalu is centrally located and only minutes to either beaches or golf courses - with everything at their fingertips, the day-dreaming Piscean will have no problem leaving planning to chance.
Aries (March 21-April 20):
The Aries traveller loves a challenge and is focused and energetic and would like to experience something new every day. Discovering a country rich in diversity with a unique terrain would stimulate and excite them.
Suggested location: The Northern Territory in Australia would be ideal, of course. After spending time on a North Queensland tropical beach, climbing Ayers rock would also be on the agenda, followed by a moonlight meal under the stars to wind down from a stimulating day.
Suggested hotel: Sails in the Desert Hotel by Voyages is the perfect base from which the Aries traveller can experience one of the most mystical landscapes in Australia.
Taurus (April 21-May 21):
Taureans love the good things in life. Laid-back by nature, they love nothing more than relaxing in luxurious surrounds. Enjoying a massage and relaxing is their way. And delicious, delectable delicacies are essential, as it's all about food for Taureans!
Suggested location: Hong Kong is one of the great centres for international cooking - you will find Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino ... a host of cuisines, really, alongside authentic Chinese food. And all of these tastes can be sampled everywhere from a sampan in Causeway Bay and a floating restaurant in Aberdeen to a street market or even at your hotel, if you stay at the correct one.
Suggested hotel: The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong is one of Asia's most luxurious and stylish hotels. And it boasts a signature restaurant, Amber, with first class contemporary cuisine and an excellent wine list. Taureans will love this lap of luxury!
Gemini (May 22-June 22):
Easily bored, Geminis love stimulation. They need to keep busy and be constantly entertained. Also, this is the Twin sign, so Geminis prefer to be presented with two options. To keep them occupied and interested, we suggest two locations:
Suggested locations: Shanghai, China, is a place where nobody could possibly get bored, as the nights are as lively as the days - colour and enthusiasm sums up this place! And then there is London, of which Samuel Johnson said so appropriately, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life".
Suggested hotels: The 88 Xintiandi is one of many boutique hotels springing up in Shanghai. It's at Xintiandi Plaza in the heart of downtown Shanghai, one of the city's most exciting and storied districts. If London's the choice, the Gemini's best bet would be the Royal Lancaster Hotel, which has panoramic views of Hyde Park and the London skyline yet is only minutes from the shopping and theatre districts of the famous West End.
Cancer (June 23-July 23):
Cancerians are homebodies, so wherever they travel, they like to have all the comforts of home. They adore the ocean and could easily live on seafood. A watery and luxurious place is ideal for them. They also appreciate history and culture, and love the ancient civilisations of the world.
Suggested location: With its many islands and seafood cuisine (arguably the best in the world), Cancerians will feel at home in Japan. One of the most attractive cities in Japan, ancient Kobe, is nestled between the ocean and the mountains. A bathhouse experience there would be a highlight for these lovers of water.
Suggested hotel: Staying in a hotel that's part of a well-known, international brand, like the Kobe Bay Sheraton Hotel & Towers, will ensure Cancerians will have those all-important home comforts.
Leo (July 24-Aug 23):
Fun loving Leos will immerse themselves in cultures that are full of colour and that stimulate the senses. They love to sing, dance and be entertained - put a mic in their hand and suddenly they are Elvis! Born shoppers, they are generous natured and love to spend, spend, spend.
Suggested location: Bangkok, of course, one of the great shopping centres of the world. Leos love gold and would love to visit one of the many temples featuring gold-covered Buddhas, like the city's famous temple of the reclining Buddha, said to be the oldest. Leos would also enjoy the colourful culture, as it would revive their spirits. And there are plenty of places for karaoke!
Suggested hotel: The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a member of the Luxury Hotel Collection, will satisfy the Leo's need for grandeur and exotic experiences.
Virgo (Aug 24-Sept 23):
Nature, tranquillity and rejuvenation is where it's at for the gentle and usually reserved Virgos. More comfortable walking, hiking and exploring than in busy city bars, Virgos embrace nature and enjoy life's simple pleasures, like good healthy food and the view from a mountaintop.
Suggested location: New Zealand's two contrasting islands mean there is plenty for Virgos to explore. They will feel relaxed by the mountains, lakes, geysers and fjords. In Rotorua, on the North Island, they will particularly enjoy immersing themselves in mud baths to be at one with nature.
Suggested hotel: Hamurana Country Estate is a boutique country estate that has luscious gardens with Lake Rotorua views, and a lifestyle farm. Virgos will particularly enjoy a nature walk to the nearby Hamurana Springs, which are surrounded by huge redwood trees.
Libra (Sept 24-Oct 23):
The most elegant of the Zodiac signs, Librans love fine wines and food and dressing up. Being an air sign means they love seeing things from great heights, just as long as they don't have to get dirty or uncomfortable to attain that height! Fun loving and sociable by nature, they long for romantic getaways.
Suggested location: Ah, Paris! What better place for a fine time relaxing on the Champs Elysees, testing exquisite wines and perfumes, and travelling to the top of the Eiffel Tower (day or night) to see the City of Romance from a better vantage point?
Suggested hotel: Librans would adore the Champs Elysees Plaza Hotel because it is based next to the famous Avenue des Champs Elysees and is close to all major monuments of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, of course.
Scorpio (Oct 24-Nov 22):
Drawn to the nightlife, Scorpios seek holidays filled with action. Point them in the direction of a funky bar and they'll dance until the sun comes up. However, their mystical nature and thirst for a deeper meaning in life mean they also love places of historic and religious interest.
Suggested location: Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, offers plenty for the information- and adventure-seeking Scorpio, including a spirited nightlife. Its rich history ensures there is plenty to explore during the day, including many impressive wats (temples). Other suggested locations are dramatic countries like Spain, Mexico, South America or Vietnam.
Suggested hotel: Hotel Cambodiana overlooks three rivers, the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Tonle Bassac, and is within walking distance of the Royal Palace and National Museum.
Sagittarius (Nov 23-Dec 22):
These are truly inspirational travellers, seeking to travel where no one has gone before. They treasure open spaces and freedom and, being big risk takers, will try anything from the wintry wastes of the Polar Regions to the harsh, shifting sands of endless deserts.
Suggested location: There were probably a lot of Sagittarians among the almost 50,000 people who travelled to the South Pole this year, but there are attractions closer to home that should also appeal to these adventure-seekers. Chang Mai, Thailand, for instance, has a striking mountain backdrop and over 300 temples to explore and makes a perfect base from which to get into the lesser-known northern areas of the country.
Suggested hotel: The Chedi Chiang Mai is located on the peaceful banks of the Mae Ping River and offers a quiet base to which hard-adventuring and partying Sagittarians can return for rest.
