PETALING JAYA: Low-cost carrier AirAsia is giving away 30,000 free tickets for the Kuala Lumpur to Singapore route.

The move is to celebrate the liberalisation of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air route, which was previously an exclusive route flown by Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

Passengers can book their free seats online at www.airasia.com from Thursday till Jan 13, for the travel period of Feb 1 to Oct 28.

AirAsia will start flying to Singapore twice daily from Feb 1. Flights depart from Kuala Lumpur at 10am and 7.50pm, while the return flights from Singapore depart at 11.30am and 9.40pm.

AirAsia CEO Datuk Tony Fernandes said that with more than 86 regional connections, AirAsia would be able to attract more long-haul passengers from Singapore to the long-haul low cost carrier AirAsia X.

"The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air route will provide AirAsia X greater access to a whole new market of cost-conscious travellers from across the region as more people are expected to make use of the cheap flights between Changi and Kuala Lumpur to connect to the international destinations serviced by AirAsia X," he said in a statement.

Passengers who do not manage to grab the free seats can also purchase tickets at RM29.99 for a one-way ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
