S'pore & Scandinavian countries conclude Open Sky Agreements
Tue, Jan 29, 2008
The Straits Times

THE airlines of both Singapore and Scandinavian countries will be able to fly without restrictions on capacity or destination, with the conclusion of three bilateral Open Skies Agreements (OSAs).

The Agreements with Denmark, Norway and Sweden are more liberal than the conventional OSAs, as unlimited 'hubbing' rights for cargo airlines are allowed.

For example, a Singapore cargo airline will be allowed to base its aircraft in Scandinavia, at any time, and operate to any other country without any restrictions. The same applies to Scandinavian carriers.

Mr Lim Kim Choon, Director-General & Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said: 'The agreements reflect the strong committment of both sides in establishing a fully liberal air services framework, and will generate benefits that extend beyond the aviation sector, promoting greater trade and investment flows between Singapore and Scandinavia.'

Singapore Airlines operates weekly passenger and cargo services between Singapore and Copenhagen.

With the conclusion of the OSAs, Singapore will have open sky agreements with more than 20 countries, including 13 with European Union countries.
