PETALING JAYA: The air ticket war is back with AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines offering big discounts.

AirAsia has a million seats on offer starting from RM5 cents per ticket ($0.21). The travel period is from June 24 to Jan 11 and available only through online booking (www.airasia.com) made from yesterday until Sunday.

Highly popular destinations include Langkawi, Kota Baru, Chiang Mai, Krabi, Jakarta and the newly launched Singapore, Yogyakarta and Gold Coast routes.

"This is part of our gesture to make holidays more affordable to the public as we continue to serve them with the Malaysia Boleh spirit through our revolutionary low fares," AirAsia regional head (commercial) Kathleen Tan said.

MAS is holding its annual Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair (MATF) from Friday to Sunday at eight locations nationwide and offering six million seats with up to 70% discount.

MAS subsidiaries MASwings and Firefly will also be participating for the first time at the fair, in which Firefly will be offering 150,000 free seats.

Bookings and purchases can also be made through the various online websites, www.malaysiaairlines.com, www.maswings.com.my and www.fireflyz.com.my, or by calling 1-300-88-3000.
