Record 883,000 January visitors for S'pore

SINGAPORE - SINGAPORE attracted 883,000 visitors, a record for the month of January. The latest figure is up 6.9 per cent from a year ago, the Singapore Tourism Board said on Tuesday.

The STB said in a media release that most visitors came from Indonesia, China, Australia, India and Japan. They account for 52 per cent of total visitor arrivals for the month.

Visitor days were estimated to reach 3.5 million days, up 19.2 per cent from the previous year.

The average room rates also increased to an all-time high, up 30.5 per cent to $237. However, the average occupancy rate for hotels dropped 2.3 percentage points to 84 per cent.
