Wishes come true in the skies

Wishes literally came true for some who rode the Singapore Flyer on its public opening day.

15 children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and four of their family members were treated to a panoramic view of Singapore's cityscape yesterday evening, on the world's largest observation wheel.

The group was taken up to some 165-metres high in a capsule privately booked by Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts, in partnership with Make-A-Wish.

The foundation is dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses, and seeks to reach out to every medically eligible individual.

Many of the children on yesterday's 7:30pm flight had actually expressed their desire to ride on the Singapore Flyer, and being able to do so on the first day the wheel opened its doors to the public was a momentous occasion.

"The scenery is just breathtaking, especially when you are right at the top. And when it goes down you see all these lights on the Sheares bridge," said Firdaus, 16.

"It's an out-of-the-world feeling," he exclaimed.

For Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts, the private capsule was actually booked one year ago, when publicity and reservations for the Singapore Flyer first started.

"At that time we had not decided what would be the best use for it," said Mr Kevin Croley, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts.

"Throughout the year we started looking into different ideas and doing something for the children just made a whole more sense."

"We hope to bring happiness and good cheer to them, and to make them feel 'on top of the world,'" he added.
