KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA: The disturbances on polling day in Marang have given tourists a wrong impression of the country.

Pas supporters had stopped buses in search of phantom voters but caught in the middle were tourists from Singapore, China and Europe.

They were in buses and had to wait hours before peace was restored and the buses allowed to continue their journey.

State police chief SAC (I) Datuk Ayub Yaacob said more are expected to be arrested soon.

To date, 24 people between ages 15 and 69, including the Pas president's son, Muhammad Khalil, have been detained for questioning and their statements taken.

In the incident on polling day, Pas supporters armed with sticks and stones stopped buses which were allegedly ferrying phantom voters.
