S'pore woman flies to Korea for nip & tuck holiday

SHE spent $4,200 on mesotherapy treatments in order to boost her self-confidence, and claimed she saw no visible results after the fat-busting injections.

On online forums on beauty and cosmetics, she got to know of others like herself, and started arranging group trips with them and her friends to go to South Korea - for beauty treatments and other plastic surgery procedures.

The 33-year-old senior sales executive, who gave her name only as Elaine, has gone on two trips so far, and is planning one more in June.

During those two trips to BK Dongyang Plastic Surgery Clinic there, she underwent plastic surgery on her eyes and nose.

She said: 'There seems to be more people willing to go overseas for such procedures.

'I find doctors in South Korea experienced and professional. When I went for my first trip in November last year, six people went along.

'On my second group trip this month, there were 11 people.'

Travel agencies are cashing in on this trend.

Earlier this year, Commonwealth Travel Service Corp (CTC) launched a seven-day 'Korea Pampering Treats Special' for beauty enhancement on eyebrows, eyelashes, lips and botox treatments.

The tour package included two visits to clinics on the first and last days.

Mr Lee Cheun Kiat, marketing manager for CTC, said that the package has been 'quite well-received by most of the female travellers'.
