Songkran road toll rises to 324

>The road toll over Songkran has hit 324 dead and 4,484 injured in 3,955 accidents, the Road Safety Centres says.

The figures represent casualties over six of seven official days of the festival.

There have been 132 more accidents recorded, compared with the same period last year. Fatalities number six more than 2007 and injuries are up 191, according to Deputy Interior Minister Sithichai Kowsurat says.

Phitsanulok has the worst fatality figure, with 15, followed by Chiang Mai with 14. Chiang Rai had the most injuries and accidents at 171 and 164, respectively. Phetchabun ranked second in both categories with 163 and 152.

On Wednesday there were 48 road fatalities and 492 injuries in 418 accidents.
