How about gourmet tourism?

Health and sports tourism have been keenly promoted but I think what we also need to promote our gourmet tourism.

What we need are special packages to entice foreign tourists to travel in the country, discover our different cuisine and at the same time learn how to cook them.

We can introduce different gourmet trails, for example the trail to the east coast states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu will unveil places that offer the best nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, nasi gulai kawah and other dishes.

While sampling the dishes and learning to cook them, tourists can also get acquainted with the local people and their culture. Getting up close and personal is the best way to experience a country and, when it comes to food, Malaysia certainly has much to offer.

There are many cooks, as well as ordinary men and women who will not mind sharing their recipes and cooking tips with tourists.

If travel agencies are bold enough to introduce and promote such packages, I am sure a lot of people would sign up for them.

So, what do you think about doing this in Singapore? Have your say.
