The Transport ministry plans to conduct an audit on railway tracks nationwide to make sure they are safe.

Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said he would propose that an independent body conduct the audit.

"I'm concerned over the condition of our tracks. It is time we have a comprehensive audit on it," he said at a press conference in Parliament lobby today.

He said the matter is still under discussion and expressed hope that it could be conducted soon.
