S'pore Airlines to raise fuel surcharge from May 12
Wed, May 07, 2008
The Straits Times

SINGAPORE Airlines said on Wednesday it will raise its fuel surcharge on SIA and SilkAir flights by US$5 (S$6.8) to US$20 from May 12 due to sharp increase in jet fuel price.

The new surcharge will go up from US$30 to US$35 for flights between Singapore and Asean cities, from US$130 to US$150 for flights between Singapore and the United States and Canada and from US$80 to US$95 on all other flights.

'The adjustments will offer only partial relief of higher operating costs arising from increases in the price of jet fuel,' said SIA in a statement.

'Singapore Airlines will continue to monitor the price of jet fuel and keep the application of the fuel surcharge under active review.'

Oil has shot up to over US$140 per barrel.
