MORE than 100,000 visitors are expected at the 25th National-level Chinese Cultural Festival to be held at Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall in Alor Star from Oct 10 to Oct 12.

Kedah Chinese Assembly Hall (KCAH) chairman Cheng Lai Hock said a mini Olympic-style torch run would be held across the country in the run-up to the event in October.

"Members of our youth wing from around the country will be participating in the torch run that will kick off in Malacca on July 6.

"It will take about a week for the torch to reach Alor Star," he told a press conference on Friday.

He said a fundraising campaign in aid of Chinese primary and private schools in Kedah would be held in conjunction with the torch run.

"In Kedah, we will organise the torch run in the 15 districts," he said.

Among the activities lined up for the festival are a cultural village show and forums on culture.

Cheng said the committee needed RM1mil to organise the festival.

"We hope the state government and non-government organisations will provide financial assistance," he said.
