300 S'porean tourists stranded after Sichuan quake: reports

>Some 300 S'porean tourists were left stranded after a massive earthquake hit the Sichuan province in China yesterday, reported the Shin Min Daily News.

A check-up on seven travel agents by a Shin Min reporter revealed that six agencies had ongoing tours in the Sichuan province, Chongqing and Jiuzhaigou regions when the quake hit at 2.30pm.

Based on figures provided by the travel agencies, 304 Singaporeans were affected. 24 individuals flew home to Singapore last night, and 280 still remain stranded due to transport disruptions.

All tour groups have been contacted by their relevant agencies, and no injuries have been reported so far.

The 7.9 magnitude quake epicentred at Wenchuan County is believed to have killed up to 12,000 people, according to initial estimates.
