PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: No flights or travel arrangements appear to be disrupted between Malaysia and China despite the massive earthquake in Sichuan province.

Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association president Chay Ng said thus far, there were no complaints of flight cancellations from members of the association.

"Since China is a big country with many provinces, Malaysians are still travelling there," he said.

Only the access road to Chengdu is disrupted because it is being used for relief work, he added.

Chay said he had heard that some flights to China were cancelled in the first two days after the earthquake, although the figures were not known.

Reliance Travel Sdn Bhd marketing director Tan Kai Seng said few Malaysians travelled to Sichuan this time of the year and the earthquake did not affect Reliance's travel arrangements. -The Star

AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandez said since the airline does not fly to Chengdu, the earthquake did not affect their flight schedules to China.

AirAsia only flies to Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Haikou and Macau.

Malaysia Airlines senior general manager Datuk Bernard Francis said the management would comment on the issue later. -The Star
