A giant water screen show on the Putrajaya Lake is the federal administrative capital's latest tourist attraction.

Located at the lakeside's promenade in Precinct One, opposite the Putra Mosque, a high-tech performance amid the night-time beauty of Putrajaya awaits the public.

The giant water screen, 90-metre wide and 35-metre high, is created by powerful jets of water, tapped from the lake, on which video images and laser lights, accompanied by music, are projected.

The images depict Malaysia's tourism offerings - colourful sea creatures, cultural dances by its multiracial people, and visuals of historical and popular tourist spots in the country.

Called the Malaysia International Spectacular show, it runs for 20 minutes at 9pm and 10pm daily until May 31.

The show was launched recently by Tourism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Victor Wee on behalf of its minister, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.

Wee said the show was part of the ministry's efforts to promote Putrajaya to locals and tourists.

"It is also part of the ministry's Visit Malaysia Year campaign which has been extended until Aug 31," he said.

Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said the city was pleased to host the ministry's tourism programme and hoped that more events would be planned to boost the city's profile.

"Putrajaya receives an average of some 2,000 foreign and local tourists daily and events like this can generate economic activity for the locals here," he said.

Also present at the launch was Putrajaya MP Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
