KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) celebrated its 10th anniversary on Monday by holding a special reception for its 191 millionth international passenger and the 65 millionth domestic passenger.
Sarawakian Then Oi Vui, 46, had just arrived from Amsterdam, en route home to Miri, when she was told that she was the lucky international passenger .
She received prizes which included F1 tickets, accommodation at the Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA, perfumes and a gift set from Body Shop.
Also feted was Abdul Rahman Jarawi, 33, an enforcement officer with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
He was travelling on work from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur when KLIA staff informed him that he was the 65 millionth domestic passenger at the airport.
Abdul Rahman was given a free stay at Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA, perfumes and a gift set from Body Shop.
Both passengers also received special-edition KLIA 10th anniversary commemorative coins and stamps.
Senior general manager of operations services for Malaysia Airports, Datuk Azmi Murad, said the airport, which had been voted the World's Best Airport thrice in a row, would continue to improve itself.
More than 50 airlines now operate out of KLIA, which offers connectivity to more than 90 destinations worldwide.
In 2007, KLIA handled 26.4 million passengers, an increase of 9.6 per cent from the previous year.
