Back to nature

BY: Rizalman Hammim

Located at the foothills of Gunung Panti, the Panti Forest Reserve is a designated forest reserve and is a world-renowned paradise for bird watchers.

The source of Sungai Johor is also located at the park.

It's a sanctuary for rare birds like the black hornbill (Anthracoceros malayanus), garnet pitta (Pitta granatina), straw-headed bulbul (Pycnonotus zeylanicus), Asian fairy-bluebird (Irena puella) and the white-rumped sharma (Copsycus malabaricus).

The Kota Tinggi waterfalls and the internationally-recognised bird-watching spot Bunker Trail which has been renamed as the Panti Bird Sanctuary, are also part of the reserve.

Facilities include huts, trails and a food court. There is also ample parking space for vehicles.

Visitors have many options when it comes to activities at the park. The more adventurous can hike through the virgin forest at the foothills of Gunung Panti, while others can take a slow stroll on the trail, or have a family picnic at the waterfall and the huts available.
