"The focus is on nature and the environment so as to instill a love for and appreciation of nature. With the recent highlight on the effects of global warming, it is timely that Malaysians should jointly work together towards preserving nature," said Datuk Hamzah Zainudin, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the co-organiser of Laman 2008.
The show is presented by the National Landscape Department and hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
The outdoor displays have four components: World Of Gardens displaying unique show gardens that complement the show's theme, Garden Expo with exhibitors displaying and selling plants and garden products, Festival Walk where visitors can browse and shop for garden-related products like books and vases and Environmental Art, a competition zone for universities to show garden creation skills.
The indoor areas feature various themed gardens, international landscape showcase, Window Of Seasons with gardens created according to the four seasons and a special showcase on tropical paradise.
There are also the 50/50 Showcase - a combination of flowers and fruit/vegetables depicting the Rhythm Of Nature, Designer Sculpture using flowers, Grand Entrance where florists create exciting "floral entrances" for homes and Designer Arrangement, presenting the latest trend in floral arrangement.
A new feature this year is the Edible Garden, presented and designed by the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah. It will inspire the people to grow herbs and vegetables for their own consumption.
Apartment and condominium dwellers can get ideas for creating indoor edible plants garden from an exhibitor, Sri Banir Nursery.
