Penang ready to celebrate

GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA: Penang Island Municipal Council president Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman said the celebration will kick off this Friday with a "Street of Harmony Walk" to selected churches, Chinese and Indian temples, and mosques which are famous places of worship for the locals.

On Saturday, the programme will include an exhibition on the historic cities of the Straits of Malacca and Malay traditional games at Acheen Street.

The Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas is expected to make the official declaration of George Town as a Unesco World Heritage Site at 8.30pm at the Esplanade.

On Sunday, it will be street celebrations at Upper Penang Road which will portray the culture of the state.
