>ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: Hobbling on frostbitten feet, Italian climber Marco Confortola, 37, walked down to K2 base camp yesterday after heavy mists ruled out an airlift for the last survivor of the worst disaster on the world's second highest mountain.

"He has reached base camp. He is being treated by a qualified doctor but couldn't be airlifted because of bad weather," said Mr Shahzad Qaiser, Pakistan's Tourism Ministry Secretary.

Eleven climbers from Europe and South Korea died, mostly asa result of an ice fall during their descent after reaching the top of the 8,611m peak last Friday. --REUTERS
