GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA: Loss adjuster Rika Tokue, 30, and husband Sean Patrick Campbell, 41, have known each other for two years.
They were here as Rika is a member of the Outer Harbour Dragon Boat Club Premier Women of Toronto, Canada, which was participating in the tournament.
"I got snowballed into this," said Rika, who wore a 90-year-old antique Peranakan bridal gown for the ceremony.
"I only wanted a simple tea ceremony, but our wedding planner suggested something bigger."
Campbell said he was worried that he would look silly, but was nevertheless ready to have fun.
He said he first met Rika through an Internet dating site two years ago and the two got engaged last year.
"We didn't talk much, as I was dating someone else at the time," said Campbell after the wedding ceremony which was attended by 18 guests, comprising dragon boat race participants, as well as family members including Rika's father, Masao Tokue, 60.
Campbell said that after a month, he sent Rika an email.
"We had a conversation for one week and after two dates, we decided to get married," said Campbell.
Campbell, who enjoyed the ceremony, said that both of them had always talked about a destination wedding.
"We had a few places in mind, such as Fiji, Japan and Thailand. In the end, we chose Penang," he said, adding that they would be heading to Langkawi, Chiangmai and Japan after their stay here.
