COME Saturday, Little India will be covered in festive lights and colourful decorations to mark the lead-up to Deepavali on Oct 27.

Indian oil lamps, or Agal Villaku, will take centre stage at the event, which will extend from the junction of Serangoon and Bukit Timah roads to the junction of Serangoon and Lavender roads.

Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, will kick-start the light-up at 7pm on Saturday at a ceremony at a carpark at Kinta Road.

A Deepavali bazaar will run at the Deepavali Festival Village at Campbell Lane from Saturday to Oct 26, and a trade fair offering food, ethnic wear and Indian handicraft will take place from Sept 28 to Oct 26 at the field opposite Serangoon Plaza.

Indian performance art forms will be featured alongside cultural performances by various ethnic groups at Utsav 2008, a concert on Oct 24, while a countdown concert by MediaCorp's Vasantham Central TV channel and MobileOne will take place on Oct 26.
