SEREMBAN, MALAYSIA - Malacca will benefit from the setting up of a new low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) in Labu, near here.

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state government fully supported the new private LCCT, which will be called the KLIA East @Labu, built under a private finance initiative by conglomerate Sime Darby Bhd.

"The KLIA East @ Labu, which is expected to be completed by March 2011, will not only benefit Negri Sembilan, but also Malacca.

"The proximity of the airport to Malacca will encourage more tourists to the state," he said after officiating the "Jom Ke Melaka" programme at Terminal One Shopping Centre here yesterday.

The proposed LCCT is expected to cost RM1.6 billion ($666.4 million).
