Some travellers of budget carriers are inconsiderate
>I TRAVEL once a month on a Singapore-based budget carrier. Inconsiderate behaviour by some passengers is common on these flights.
Passengers stuff used tissue paper, sour plum seeds and even used diapers into the seat pockets. Many passengers do so despite inflight announcements appealing them to refrain from doing so.
Some passengers do not bother to flush the toilets after using them. Others shout at the cabin crew when food sold onboard runs out, or when they have to pay for extra baggage. Is it the crew's fault when such passengers haul so much baggage for the flight?
Passengers who board the plane at the last minute after wandering around the duty-free shops, still expect the storage compartments above their seats to be vacant when they finally stroll into the plane.
They forget that they are flying budget, not first class.
Such passengers must be fair to those who board the plane early.
Passengers borrow pens from the crew and fail to return them. This may seem trivial, but a crew member can fly as many as four sectors per day, so imagine how many pens she may lose?
On one flight to Singapore from a Chinese city, I witnessed a passenger who shouted at a cabin crew member at 1am, allegedly for being rude.
The bizarre point was that he was not involved in the altercation between the crew member and another passenger.
This meddlesome passenger was subsequently off loaded from the aircraft after the captain was summoned by the cabin crew.
My New Year wish for air travellers is simple: Respect begets respect. Just because one can afford to pay for a cheap air ticket does not give one the right to verbally abuse another human being.
The cabin crew are there for a purpose, and that is to ensure the safety and comfort of air travellers.
In an emergency, such as a crash landing, I would always want the crew to be able to perform their primary duty.
So please help them to help us.
