Up to 60% off tour packages at Natas fair

by Rachel Chan

THOSE going to this weekend's Natas travel fair can expect up to 60 per cent discounts for tour packages.

This year's fair will be bigger than last year's, with a multitude of exhibitors occupying 928 booths and expecting crowds of up to 60,000 people.

Last year, more than 57,000 visitors turned up and travel operators chalked up over $50 million in sales.

This year promises to be no different. Natas chief executive Robert Khoo said: "Singaporeans will pick up a good bargain when they smell a good offer."

More Singaporeans may be opting for short-distance holidays in recent months, but long-haul trips are still expected to sell well, he added.

"People will realise that they can get good value for money at the fair. In future, the same offer may not be available again," he said.

Australia and New Zealand are likely to be hot destinations because of favourable exchange rates, while Japan, South Korea and Taiwan continue to be popular with Singaporeans.

"There is big competition between airlines right now because of the drop in business travellers.

"So they're concentrating on attracting leisure travellers instead," Mr Khoo said.

This year, seven mid-sized travel agents, including Misa Travel, will join Natas for the first time.

The fair will be held at Singapore Expo halls 4B and 5, from today till Sunday.
