Airline seat kickers the most annoying

Inconsiderate air-travellers head the list of Top Travel Annoyances in a global poll conducted by online travel reviews company TripAdvisor

WHAT or who irks you the most when you travel? A spokesman for online travel reviews company TripAdvisor said: The notion of travelling for pleasure can be a total farce when you're surrounded by passengers who seem intent on making their presence felt - be it with a boot in the back, or an elbow in the ribs.

TripAdvisor conducted a global poll of 8,931 people including almost 500 from the UK and the poll revealed these top 10 travel peeves:

1. People who kick the back of airline seats are the ultimate no-no for almost one third of travellers (31%)

2. Rude seat recliners (21%)

3. Passengers who bellow down their mobile phones (16%)

4. Passengers blocking the aisles and taking too long to stow overhead baggage (12%)

5. People getting up before the seatbelt sign is off (5%)

6. People hogging the seat armrest or leg rest (4%)

7. Passengers who eat smelly food (4%)

8. Travellers blocking moving walkways (3%)

9. Shoulder surfers who read over your shoulder (1%)

10. People wandering in front of airport service carts (1%)

Other common annoyances are:

  • People who lean over to talk to your neighbour on the other side of the aisle
  • Those who adjust the window shade to their liking at any time
  • Those who know they have to go to the toilet often but ask for window seats, so they make you get up every time
  • Parents who let their children "go" as if the plane is a playground or who totally ignore their crying babies
  • Fussy passengers who always have something to complain about
  • Passengers who refuse to get up to allow passengers getting in or out of the inner seats
  • Passengers who take off their shoes and emitting foul smells
  • Passengers in the back seat harshly releasing the tray attached to the seat in front of them
  • Passengers who talk loudly
  • Over-friendly passengers who don't recognise hints that their "friendliness" is not really welcomed
  • Crew members talking loudly among themselves and using words like air crash during conversations or safety briefing
