Wife dives off ship in rescue attempt
>GEORGE TOWN: A 47-year-old Indian national plucked from the choppy sea after her husband fell overboard from the Star Cruise Virgo on Monday was trying to save him. Pranhakar Shetty, a cousin of the missing 49-year-old Noojady Nithynanda said Shetty Kasturi dived into the sea when her husband fell off the ship.

"She is a good swimmer, but her husband is not. That is why she risked her life to save him," he said yesterday at the hospital where Shetty is being treated.

She is still recovering from the trauma. Her gutsy attempt proved futile as she was swept away from her husband by the undercurrent.

Pranhakar said he and the couple left Bangalore last Tuesday for the cruise which set sail from Singapore.

The incident happened at 10.30am as the ship was headed towards Pulau Kendi.

Noojady lost his footing as he and his wife were strolling on the slippery deck, according to sources. At press time, his body had not been found.
