SIA's promo fares take competition to budget carriers

THINK you are getting the most bang for your buck by flying budget for your next holiday?

Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Monday announced promotional fares for flights to Hong Kong and Bangkok, which rival even the prices offered by low-cost carriers.

Return economy fares to Hong Kong, during the sale period from June 16 to 18, are going for just $298.

This all-inclusive offer from SIA is just $15 more than the $283 fare to Hong Kong on budget airline Jetstar, said Lianhe Wanbao yesterday.

From July 9, passengers on certain HK flights may even get to fly the Airbus A380, the world's largest commercial jet.

During the promotional period from now till next Monday, SIA flights to Bangkok are also being offered at $228.

This is priced competitively against Jetstar's $143, AirAsia's $175 and Tiger Airways' $178, according to Wanbao's online query of fares listed on the respective airlines' websites.

All airfares quoted above are one-to-go and include taxes and surcharges, but may vary according to the period of travel and time of booking.

To enjoy SIA's promotional fares to Hong Kong, customers need to make bookings on singaporeair.com. For Bangkok, customers can book via the website or through travel agents.

SIA passengers must travel between June 19 and July 31 to enjoy these offers.

Fares to other destinations like Nanjing, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ho Chi Minh, Perth, Sydney are also on offer.
