>THREE zoos in the country have records of their own. Zoo Taiping in Perak probably holds the most number of records compared to two other zoos - Zoo Negara in Ulu Kelang, Selangor and Zoo Melaka in Malacca.
Besides being the country's oldest zoo, Zoo Taiping is also the only zoo in northern Peninsular Malaysia and the first to have night safari.
The Night Safari, set in lighting similar to moonlight, allows visitors to watch nocturnal animals in a natural-looking setting.
Located within the Taiping Lake Gardens, the 34-acre Zoo Taiping is home to more than 180 species of animals.

Slightly bigger than Zoo Taiping, the 54-acre Zoo Melaka is the second zoo in the country to extend its opening hours till almost midnight. Its Night Zoo, however, is only open on weekends, the eve of public holidays and school holidays.
Located in Ayer Keroh, it is home to 1,200 animals from 200 species. Like Zoo Taiping, it also adopts an open concept and maintains a natural green environment.
The biggest zoo in the country is Zoo Negara or the National Zoo, spread over 110 acres of land in Hulu Kelang, some 20km from Kuala Lumpur city centre.
The 45-year-old zoo has a total of over 5,000 animals from 459 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
It's quite noted in the world and is working to entirely change its old zoo concept of small enclosures to house the animals.
