>ARRIVING at Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi is an experience in itself. As soon as you arrive, someone is waiting to welcome you and to escort you to your room for personalised check-in formalities.
Soothing music is heard when your room door is opened and a cold drink is served, together with a wet face towel for you to freshen up. Impressive you may think. Well, get ready for more to come.
Comfortable though your room may be, do not simply stay there and enjoy its comforts - there is so much to see and do here.
Strategically located to take full advantage of the crystal clear Andaman Sea on Langkawi's northern coastline, this rustic resort offers guests fabulous view of the surrounding islands that make up part of the Kilim Geopark.
A good tip to remember is to make a mental note of the time when the tide would be at its lowest because a sandy strip appears as if by magic when the water subsides. Resort guests use this temporary walkway to get to two nearby offshore islands and explore the exposed seabed. But do not linger too long - you must return before the tide turns!
The resort is set on a 2.5km stretch of white sandy beach where you can take a walk in the early morning and enjoy the glorious sunrise.
Take a dip in the sea or in one of the resort's three luxurious pools. One of these pools is filled with saltwater right from the Andaman Sea, complete with a tiny strip of sand for sunbathers who want to be close to the comforts of the resort.
Compared with most other five-star establishments, the rooms here are very spacious, tastefully decorated with wooden antiques and a warm colour combination. Accommodation choices come with a choice of sea, garden or pool views.
There is a wide range of dining experiences. Enjoy a romantic beach barbecue under the stars, al fresco dining by the sea or a memorable sunset cruise dinner.
At the Saffron, nibble on tapas and indulge in main courses. You have the option of dining in air-conditioned comfort indoors or to enjoy the cool sea breeze outside with a view of sea and islands in the distant.
There is a variety of holiday packages available. The all-inclusive package (all meals and non-alcoholic beverages at any of the resort's F&B outlets, including in-room dining and return transfer from the Langkawi International Airport) is popular. Just add an extra RM350 to the room rates to enjoy this additional privilege.
Just a stone's throw away is Tanjung Rhu Village
where you can enjoy local delicacies and shop for local products and handicraft. Don't forget to register for the Nature Walk - specifically request for a trip to Pulau Tok Umai, near Tanjung Rhu Jetty. There you can see Archer Fish shooting down their prey, remnants of an anchovy factory, moulting cicadas and fruiting cashew trees!
