Rooms for more

BY: SHANTI GUNARATNAM

HOTEL Grand Continental Melaka has brand new rooms that'll bring smiles to those travelling in large groups.

The superior and deluxe rooms are designed for three or more people. "Superior rooms come with one queen bed and one single bed or with three single beds. The deluxe rooms have two queen beds and are most suitable for families," says hotel manager Christopher Koh.

"Families on holiday prefer these rooms as both parents and children can stay together." The deluxe family rooms are currently their hottest seller. There are also executive rooms with a king-sized bed.

The 16-year-old hotel underwent a RM2 million refurbishment exercise recently to improve its rooms, facilities and services.

"Some 45 per cent of our guests are repeat guests. The numbers are steadily growing, so it is only appropriate that we reward their loyalty by doing up the rooms to make their stay even more pleasant. When our guests walk through our doors, we want their stay here to be a memorable one," says Koh.

"With so many hotels in Malacca, we must stamp our mark on our guests with good service, very comfortable rooms and facilities that they will be able to enjoy when they are here."

The hotel is usually fully booked during the school holidays, festive seasons and long weekends. Locals and foreigners, in particular Singaporeans, like to stay here as the hotel is conveniently located in the city centre, near many tourists attractions.

Koh says the average night stay at the hotel is 1.5. They are hoping to attract more tourists, especially those from Japan, to stay with them.

"We have foreigners staying with us, including Westerners. Now we want the Japanese to enjoy our hospitality, too."
