HK shopping haunts and attractions

Dr hols
I want to visit Hong Kong for two weeks. Can you recommend a few new places of interest and shopping haunts?

By Christopher Tan

Besides the usual Tsim Sha Tsui or Mongkok for shopping, you can try going to Citygate in Tung Chung. The outlet shop is good for discounted sportswear and even branded clothes, which can go for up to 90 per cent off.

Causeway Bay is another good area as most locals shop there. From department stores such as Sogo to small shops and stalls bursting with bargains, there is something for everyone there.

Computer geeks can head to Wanchai Computer Centre or the Mongkok Computer Centre. There are computer games, gaming devices and miniature toys to add to your IT collection.

Also, do check out the Ladies Market if you enjoy haggling. Do not let the name of the market fool you, there is something for everyone there.

Only have 48 hours in Hong Kong? Check out this itinerary.

For even better bargains, cross the border into Shenzhen, which is popular even with Hong Kongers.

If you have children, take them to Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau island or Ocean Park on Hong Kong island. Apart from the wide range of rides at Ocean Park, the children will also get to see pandas.

Head next to the Avenue of the Stars, Hong Kong's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This seaside promenade celebrates the best in Hong Kong cinema from the past century. It also offers great day and night views of the Victoria Harbour.

If you are there at 8pm, catch the light and laser show, A Symphony Of Lights, which is synchronised to music.

There are also hiking trails like the one in Lantau island and the MacLehose Trail in the New Territories that you can explore. Do take along plenty of water and mosquito repellent.
