Shopping Dos & Don'ts

1. Do carry one or two foldable and expandable shopping bags. Save the trees and the earth. Forgo paper or plastic shopping bags.
2. Do wear comfortable walking shoes. If you must, shop till you drop - but don't suffer from corns and bunions.
3. Do avoid backlanes and seedier parts of the city. Don't flash cash or stacks of notes tied with rubber bands.
4. Do hold handbags on the side away from traffic flow. Don't become a motorcyclesnatch-theft statistic.
5. Do keep jewellery at home. You don't want to look like an attractive target.
6. Do go to established shopping enclaves where you can spend the whole day soaking in the mega-sale ambience and feel the "adrenaline rush" of spotting a truly good buy.
7. Do keep your eyes open. Observe local buyer behaviour. If they bargain, so can you. But if the shop is doing a roaring trade with 70 per cent discounts, save your breath, just move in - enjoy the rush and crush.
8. Do read previous three to five days' local papers for latest "best" shopping deals. Ask for advice from returning "expert" shoppers with good experiences - model what they have done right.
9. Don't just buy, buy, buy. Do eat, drink and make merry. Travel with friends. You are on holiday! Enjoy delicious local food flavours. Check out the nightlife for a complete experience of the city. Do ask your hotel concierge for where to find the best.
