MyPaper | Mon, Dec 9 2013
THOSE looking for a short getaway can consider taking a trip to Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, and indulge in retail therapy and good food in the bustling city, which is about an hour away by air.
Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya, a five-star business hotel located in KL's commercial district, also has special deals and events lined up for guests this festive season.
The 388-room hotel was awarded the Certificate of Excellence last year by travel website TripAdvisor, and is just 15 minutes away by car from the shopping district in KL. The hotel also provides free shuttle services to major shopping malls.
Restaurants in the hotel are also offering festive menus to celebrate the season.
Swez Brasserie will hold a Christmas Eve buffet dinner, complete with live music. It will also have a Christmas Day buffet brunch. Prices start from RM73 (S$28) for adults.
Signature dishes include a whole turkey with three different stuffings, turkey sushi rolls and Christmas pudding with vanilla sauce. Those who love Japanese food can visit Eyuzu Japanese Cuisine in the hotel.
Its buffet dinner on Christmas Eve will feature popular dishes, including fresh sashimi, tempura, udon and sushi. Prices start from RM118 for adults.
Those who prefer Chinese food can visit Ee Chinese Cuisine, which offers six-course Christmas and New Year set menus from Dec 25 to Jan 1. Prices start from RM118 per person.
Besides dining options, Eastin is offering a Stay and Explore KidZania package for Christmas.
The package includes a stay at the hotel, and also tickets to KidZania, an indoor family "edu-tainment" centre which offers interactive learning and entertainment experiences for kids.
Beyond the hotel, visitors can take a tour around KL.
Tourists can check out the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers which offer great views of the city, or head to Bukit Bintang, a prime shopping belt where luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Burberry can be found in the malls.
Those who like handicraft can check out Central Market near Petaling Street (Chinatown) where art, T-shirts and antiques are sold.
Alternatively, make a trip to the famous Batu Caves, a huge limestone hill north of KL. One of the holiest Hindu shrines in Malaysia can be found there.
