You better Beliebe it.
Pop star Justin Bieber took to Instagram on July 10 to announce his engagement to model Hailey Baldwin. The 24-year-old singer gushed about his fiancee in a lengthy post.
“My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else,” he said.
Can you hear cries of Jelena hopefuls (Bieber and ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez shippers)? Anyway, that is the past. The heart wants what it wants and Baldwin is now Bieber’s baby.
The pair reportedly got engaged during a recent holiday in Bahamas. Baldwin, who is a 21-year-old model, has been spotted with a massive engagement ring.
Now, just who is this future Mrs Bieber? Here are five things you should know:
1. Hollywood connection
Hailey Baldwin's father is actor Stephen Baldwin who has starred in films like The Usual Suspects and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas. Her uncle is of course, actor Alec Baldwin who has received numerous accolades for his role as Jack Donaghy in 30 Rock.
In an interview with Grazia, Hailey acknowledged how having a famous surname meant that it's somewhat easier to break into the competitive modelling industry. But she is not going to be complacent.
"I want to do everything on my own without my name being a factor. I try to keep myself separate from it," she said in the 2016 interview.
2. Reluctant model
The leggy blonde who is of American and Brazilian parentage (her mother is Brazilian graphic designer Kennya Deodato) started modelling at age 17. Growing up, Hailey wanted to be a professional ballet dance. However, a foot injury meant she had to give up that dream.
In an interview with Yahoo Style back in 2014, Hailey talked about how she never dreamt about being a model. She says: "It's not something I always wanted to do. It was something that just started happening naturally which I think is better because then you're in no way forced into it at all."
To date, Hailey has done runway shows and fashion campaigns for the likes of Moschino, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.
3. She has appeared in two music videos
In 2011, Hailey was only 14 when she played the love interest in teen singer Cody Simpson's On My Mind music video. Then in 2016, she was credited as 'Girl' in French model-singer Giabiconi's music video Love To Love You Baby. That video is not safe for work. Only time will tell if Hailey will appear in any of fiance Bieber's music videos.
4. Hailey and Justin Bieber go way back
Do you remember 2009 Bieber and his trademark helmet hair? Well, 2009 also marked the first time Bieber and Hailey met. In a clip posted by Today, it was revealed that Bieber and Hailey first met in the office of the media company in New York. It seemed that dad Stephen was the one who introduced Hailey to Bieber, telling him: "This is my daughter Hailey. We've been enjoying your music."
The meeting seemed awkward with Hailey crossing her arms and barely saying anything to Bieber. Who knew these two would end up getting engaged.
5. She hopes to keep her love life away from the spotlight
Back in 2016, Bieber gushed about Hailey in an interview with GQ. He described her as someone he really loves. He also spoke about wanting to take things slow with Hailey.
"So now I'm just more so looking at the future, making sure I'm not damaging them. What if Hailey ends up being the girl I'm gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it's always gonna be damaged. It's really hard to fix wounds like that. It's so hard, I just don't want to hurt her."
In the same year, E! News tried to get Hailey to comment on her relationship with Bieber and she refused to say much. "It's just between me and him," she said.
Hailey who has 13 million Instagram followers said it's hard dealing with media speculation about her personal life.
"Dating in the spotlight isn't easy. The thing is, I live a very public life and I have to keep things personal or else I have no personal life. It's very difficult. I am very open on social media, but that's why I don't like to talk about certain things. It really is my personal business. And I like to think my relationships are not between me, the person and the whole entire world."
