Singapore Airlines will increase its fuel surcharge by some 8 to 10 per cent from August 2.
The national airline announced in a press statement today that the increase is a result of a "sustained escalation in the price of jet fuel in recent months".
The revised fuel surcharge will apply to all tickets issued on or after August 2, and will affect Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights.
For flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Denpasar, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Manila and Penang, the fuel surcharge will go up by 10 per cent from US$20 to US$22 per sector.
Flights between Singapore and gateways in the United States and Canada on a single-sector basis will also see an increase of some 10 per cent, from US$89 to US$98 per sector.
There will be an increase of some 8.6 per cent on all other flights, from US$58 to US$63 per sector.
The price of jet fuel is now hovering around US$90 per barrel, compared to US$81 per barrel when the surcharge was last revised in May.
The airline says that "the adjustments will offer only partial relief of higher operating costs arising from increases in the price of jet fuel". It will continue to monitor the price of jet fuel and keep the application of the fuel surcharge under review.
