SINCE the escape of Jemaah Islamiah terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari in February from the Whitley Road Detention Centre, Singapore has stepped up its security checks at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority in Woodlands and Tuas.
This has caused massive jams which can result in drivers having to wait for more than two hours before getting clearance at the immigration counters.
I support the Government's action in ensuring that security is not compromised, even though this means inconveniencing drivers like myself who visit Johor Baru once a week.
While many drivers generally queue up patiently, there are errant ones who deliberately jump the queue. While I was caught in a massive jam last Saturday, I witnessed at least four Singapore-registered queue jumping cars.
One jumped the queue only 200m from where an auxiliary policeman was directing the traffic. I did not see anything being done to stop such errant and inconsiderate drivers.
The authorities should take tough action against such inconsiderate drivers by making it convenient for other motorists to submit photographs of such queue-cutting drivers, taken with their mobile phone cameras. These photographs should be displayed in public.
