IMAGINE watching police officers dancing the poco-poco or Bollywood-style dressed in their uniform.

Utusan Malaysia reported yesterday that some 70 police personnel from Malacca took part in a dance performance.

The first-ever performance held at Banda Hilir was to strengthen ties between the police and tourists.

State police deputy chief SAC II Kamal Pasha Jamal said the new approach was aimed at making tourists feel comfortable and safe when visiting the state.

"This shows our willingness to be people-friendly and at the same time carry out our duty in safeguarding tourists," he said.

Tourists who watched the performance regarded the effort by the police as unique.

French visitor Nicole Mitchatid said she was surprised to see a uniformed police team dancing while walking at Nyiru Square.

"I have never seen this in my hometown. I was amused and at the same time astounded to watch them," she said.

Zdemek Pitrocha from the Czech Republic felt that the activity had created a friendly relationship among tourists and police officers.
