Visa ruling to China lifted

Singaporeans going to China will no longer need to queue at the Chinese Embassy. -ST

The visa requirements for Singaporeans travelling to China will be lifted from Friday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The need for a visa was imposed on July 1 to tighten security during the August Beijing Olympics.

Holiday-makers and businessmen alike were caught by surprise and had scrambled to apply for their visas to China. Queues outside the Chinese Embassy in Tanglin Road had stretched to 100 metres on some days.
