Several Singaporeans were among the injured passengers of a Qantas flight which suffered a mid-air plunge yesterday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Passengers on board QF72, flying from Singapore to Perth, were slammed against the cabin roof, breaking bones and causing spinal injuries, when the plane suddenly dropped thousands of feet in a few seconds.

Some 36 passengers and crew were injured, 20 seriously, reported AFP.

"The majority (of Singaporeans) were given outpatient treatment. While a few Singaporeans are under observation, they are in stable condition," said MFA in a statement

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our High Commission in Canberra have been in touch with the injured Singaporeans or their next-of-kin, and rendered the necessary consular assistance," it added.

MFA did not reveal how many Singaporeans were injured in the incident.

The Qantas jet made an emergency landing at an air force base near Exmouth in remote Western Australia.
