Singapore, Nov 21, 2008 - Singapore's Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)today signed an agreement on aviation security cooperation in Singapore.

The MOU formalises bilateral cooperation on aviation security and signifies a step forward for both parties to further engage and cooperate with each other on aviation security projects.

Under the MOU, both parties agree to enhance bilateral cooperation on areas such as aviation security policy, procedures, technology, operations and training.

For instance,both countries could work together on training opportunities and to test new aviation security equipment to improve security screening measures while upholding passenger facilitation and efficiency. Regular dialogues, joint seminars, forums and conferences could also be organised to increase exchange of information and sharing of best practices on civil aviation security.

Commenting on the MoU, BG(NS) Choi Shing Kwok, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Transport, Singapore, said: "The Memorandum of Understanding on Aviation Security Cooperation with the Civil Aviation Administration of China marks another step forward in the very good level of transport cooperation between Singapore and the People's Republic of China.

"It provides both sides with greater opportunities to collaborate on policies, training, technology and sharing of best practices. Such cooperation will certainly enhance the level of aviation security and provide a greater level of confidence to all air travelers."

The MOU was signed by BG(NS) Choi and Mr Yang Guo Qing, Deputy Administrator of the CAAC.
