Singapore Airlines (SIA) yesterday suspended all its 10 flights to and from Bangkok until further notice.

Thai Airways cancelled eight flights while Cathay Pacific Airways cancelled two. Jetstar Asia has suspended its two morning flights today but has not yet decided on whether to cancel two evening flights.

Mr Stephen Forshaw, vice-president of SIA public affairs, said SIA staff at the airport "have been doing what they can" to help affected customers.

Teacher Clarissa Lim, 25, was able to board a 7pm flight home from Bangkok on Tuesday. At the airport since 3.30pm, she saw protesters forming along the highway.

"The situation was tense," she said. "But I wish I didn't leave. It's once in a lifetime to be in such a situation." Back in Singapore, a 23-year-old public-relations professional, who wanted to be known as Ms Siow, said she was disappointed that her company's annual retreat - which was to have been in Bangkok - was being cancelled.
