Be one with the breeze at The Samaya
Luxury meets nature's splendour in perfect unison at this Bali resort
Set against white sandy beaches, a breathtaking skyline and rolling waves, it is obvious why The Samaya's Breeze restaurant in Bali is so aptly named. Located in the fashionable district of Seminyak alongside hip restaurants, bars and retail shops, The Samaya offers guests everything magical the Bali sea and coastline has to offer without them ever needing to leave its premises. The resort, containing 18 villas with private plunge pools and six royal pavilions with an additional jacuzzi, is ingeniously designed with the main pool and restaurant located closest to the coast and the residences forming a general semi-circle around them. Surrounding the pool and fringed by coconut trees are lazy beach chairs, from which sun-bathers get an illusion that they are close to the waves because of the proximity to the sea and the slightly sloping coastline. At the Breeze restaurant, when the tide is high and the waves break closer to shore, only a short expanse of beach separate diners from the sea.
From that elevated vantage point, a frothy white trail of seawater stretches across the entire beach, washing up and receding in a ceaseless rhythm. If the visual treat whets the gastronomic appetite, chef Torsten Schubert is around to whip up some delectable American, European and local specialties. There is also a wine cellar stocked with with a collection of over 100 different labels at any time. Of course, no beach would be complete without spectacular skylines, and at sunset the sky above Samaya flashes hues of red and orange, before settling into a dark blue, and finally being consumed by the darkness of night. In fact, if you stop midway from the main lobby to the pool during sunset, you might be treated to a picturesque sight of a lamp-lined fountain and pathway framed by coconut trees with the brilliant sunset sky creeping into view. Breathtaking. On some mornings, you might also catch horses galloping on the beach, with resort guests astride them, some animatedly trying to get a handle on their rides, others enjoying the free-spirited movements of the steeds. The resort can also arrange activities like golf, water sports, white water rafting, and trekking in addition to horseback back riding. For a more tranquil body "workout", The Samaya offers spa packages, like the recommended Aroma Tropica Flower Massage in the privacy of your villa.
Watch as your villa is transformed into a mini spa haven - massage beds strewn with rose petals, frangipanis and kenanga flowers, coupled with an aroma therapeutic scent of these flowers. Using a lavendar and Ylang Ylang body oil, the therapist will give you a full-body rub down, ending with a peppermint spray for the foot massage. The package is not complete without the audio sensory experience as a CD in the background plays sounds of dolphins and orcas to provide a calming effect.
The villas at The Samaya are able to accommodate such in-house luxuries due to the innovative use of space. Interior-wise the villa is divided into only two areas, the main living area and the bathroom, but in no way is there a feeling of crowdedness in either. Furniture pieces are strategically arranged to enhance the open spaces, providing for a minimalist but appealing and cozy feel. Like the Henri Matisse paintings of broad abstract brush strokes which adorn the villa's walls, The Samaya seems to embrace a tacit understanding between resort and guest. It is a "oneness" that originates with the name Samaya itself, a Sanskrit word which means an "inner sanctum of well-being", and a "reflection of peace and tranquility" conveying the message "I am with you". Indeed it is. » Read about Jaymee's exclusive experience at Bali here. The writer's trip is courtesy of DBS, Launchpad Asia and Motorola. |
